ASA 1000 GT

Full Restoration

A Tribute to a Rare Classic

The ASA 1000 GT is an exceptionally rare and captivating classic, born from an intriguing chapter in automotive history. Produced in the 1960s, this small but powerful sports car was the result of a collaboration between some of Italy’s greatest talents—Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was responsible for its elegant design, and Giotto Bizzarrini, the engineer behind its mechanics. What makes the ASA 1000 GT even more fascinating is its connection to Ferrari, as it was conceived as an affordable entry-level Ferrari, designed to offer the driving experience of a Ferrari in a smaller package.

Our restoration project for the ASA 1000 GT embraces the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail that defined its original creation. Before beginning this journey, we took part in the annual ASA Club meeting in Modena, Italy. This gathering of experts and enthusiasts provided us with invaluable insights into the car’s history and technical details, which became essential to our restoration efforts.

Engine and Suspension: A Fine Balance of Preservation and Modernization

One of the most critical aspects of restoring the ASA 1000 GT will be the engine and suspension. The car is powered by a 1.0-liter inline-four engine, derived from Ferrari’s expertise, and maintaining its original performance was key to this restoration. However, many of the original components, such as rubber seals and bearings, have aged beyond their usable life. During our time in Modena, we gained expert knowledge on how to replace these components with modern equivalents that preserve the car’s mechanical integrity without compromising its original specifications. This careful balance between preservation and modernization ensures that the ASA 1000 GT not only retains its authentic driving experience but also benefits from increased durability.

The suspension system, crucial to the car’s handling and ride comfort, will undergo a complete overhaul. We are sourcing high-quality components and focusing on critical elements like shock absorbers and bushings to ensure every part functions in perfect harmony, just as it did during the car's prime.

Interior Restoration: A Commitment to Authenticity

The interior of the ASA 1000 GT is a testament to mid-century Italian craftsmanship, with fine materials and an understated yet luxurious design. Restoring this part of the car required a deep understanding of the materials originally used. Through conversations with experts who specialize in classic car interiors, we learned exactly which fabrics, leathers, and finishes would match the original design. This level of authenticity ensures that the restored interior not only looks the part but also feels true to the car’s history.

We meticulously rebuilt every aspect of the interior, from the dashboard to the seats, using period-correct materials. Every stitch, seam, and panel was crafted to mirror the car’s original appearance, ensuring that when you sit in the ASA 1000 GT, it feels as though you’ve stepped back in time.

Breathing New Life into a Classic

Our commitment to this project goes beyond technical expertise. It is a tribute to a rare and remarkable piece of automotive history. Through careful restoration, we are giving new life to the ASA 1000 GT, ensuring that this exceptional classic continues to captivate and inspire, just as it was always meant to.
